Tragic Lives

Darn it! I knew I should have persevered with my leading-tear autobiography

I Was Locked In A Cupboard For Longer Than You

Only one thing for it. I shall have to devote the rest of my days to a worthy
cause and make sure my life hasn't been in vain...

Tragic Life Stories? I'm glad the poor of the present and historical world will at last be given a voice in a our bookshops... alongside the autobiographies of Jade Goodey, Sid 'n' Nancy and... er... Benny Hill.

My "favourite" misery memoir title is "Please Daddy, No". I sold a copy to a woman who was buying it to read on holiday!

1p from every copy sold goes to the Haiti appeal.

Oh my, all those shelves of tragic books. I really loathe all those child abuse type stories. Not that I have actually read any - I just hate the idea of them. It's like people are feasting on misery. I guess they see it as enlightening and getting a proper insight into the world. It does not seem that way to me!

My son has a toy polar bear that he has always called "Panda bear". Poor bear!

Steve, what puzzles me is how Dave Pelzer managed to write 5 books about misery of the boy called 'IT'! That's far longer than his childhood, surely?

Steerforth, what a strange woman! A case for sectioning if that's her idea of a holiday read.

Geoff, yes, but with 99p from every book sold going to Amazon, that doesn't leave a whole lot for the poor author.

RB - I suppose they are masturbating over misery to put it crudely. But who is worse? Those who write the genre or those who devour it?

Notabene - Quite

WWW- you have a point there actually. Nothing like reading about someone else's terrible life to make one's own seem not so terrible.

Sagittarian - thank you!
