All I Wanted Was a De-Tangle Comb!

I had to ask an assistant where the brushes and combs had gone to as all I could see was a sea of unidentifiable pink packaged 'goods' of no recognizeable use to man, woman or beast.
Someone should get this 'Chemist' under the Trades Descriptions Act. And where are the Packaging Police when you need them, if we're remotely serious about saving this planet? The contents of these gifts seemed to consist largely of packaging! Which begs the question, how much disposable income do they think we earn, proportionate to our intelligence in disposing of it?

Aaargh! Pink pink pink! Horrible smelly plastic. Horrible crinkly sellophane. Makes me skin creep. Actually to be fair to Boots, I had to go into town this morning to buy a new can opener... couldn't find one anywhere. Tesco had sold out and were so unhelpful it was awe inspiring. Boots don't sell them but the shop assistant there did direct me to a shop that did. For which I am very grateful. And the can opener - no packaging at all. Just how I like it.

When my grils were little they used to enjoy the packaging as much as if not more than the actual contents of the parcel. These days, it doesn't even have that use as they are very good at chucking it out. However, I take your point about the rubbish it creates and it certainly isn't the greenest of things is it! Pooh to excess packaging I say!

Hi Laura
You may be pleased to know that your blog now has a link on the brpoets website

Thanks for the link Kate - much appreciated!

The only packaging I enjoyed as a child Sagittarian, were the large cardboard boxes you could stand on end and form a passage/den round the living room with, blankets draped over openings for doors! The cats loved that too and would play and pounce for hours. But they were often then recycled into cat beds after (if I hadn't cut windows into them). Sadly fire safety regulations now force all shops and supermarkets to flatten and dispose of all cardboard boxes immediately so it is far rarer to find the right size (tho' perhaps I should stop making dens now I'm in my 30's!)

What I don't understand about our local Boots Steve, is how they decimated the photography department when it pretty well ended up being the only one left in town and with such amazing hordes of students and visitors to patronize it (though they have now installed a lot of digital printing booths which is an improvement from the mile long queues there were until recently). What really annoys me about Boots is how little they sell that is actually either useful or chemist-related! Then again if you don't want either books, shoes or cappuccinos, Oxford isn't known for shopping (and nor should it be, there's quite enough of that everywhere else!)

I stopped going into Boots when they stopped stocking the soap I liked. I have no need for them now.

Plus I was sick of having them ask me if I wanted a store card... band on that, M&S will be next.

Boots is great for, for example, voice-changing Doctor Who dalek masks, but really rather difficult to find what you want - for instance, they dont have sonic toothbrush heads at all, which is rather poor for such a big store!

Thanks for reminding me I need some new Sonicare toothbrush heads Dan - I won't bother looking for them in Boots tho'! Online is probably the best bet for that sort of thing.
